Hari's Research Work
Hari's research emphasis has been on understanding and elucidating the structural details of the Slit-diaphragm (SD) in health and diseases such as nephrotic syndrome (NS). Hari is interested to learn how mutations in some crucial proteins of SD, like podocin, CD2AP, NEPH1, TRPC6, and nephrin, alter the architecture of SD and contribute to the pathogenesis of NS. He employs multidisciplinary approaches for:
1) Investigating the adverse effects of point mutations on the proteins' structure and function.
2) Elucidating the native interactions among crucial SD proteins and how they deteriorate in case of mutations.
3) Probing the retrogression of the altered interactions with the help of molecular chaperones and small molecules.
He extensively utilizes computational biology tools like molecular docking, molecular dynamics, homology modeling, virtual screening, and cheminformatics for lead identification to address the research problems.
